Forest Management Plans
A management
plan serves as a road map for current and future activities. While some
landowners require a formal plan, others choose a less formal approach. FMS
can satisfy both of these needs. Most forest management plans conducted
by FMS follow a similar process:
- Determine the goals, needs, and objectives of the landowner and property
- Purpose of owning the property
- Length of plan (i.e. 5 years, 10 years)
- Cash flow needs
- Desired level of management activities (intensive vs. less intensive)
- Wildlife and recreational needs
- Property and stand mapping using aerial photography and GPS equipment
- Conduct an inventory designed to gather the necessary information to meet these goals and needs
- Evaluate the information gathered with the owners goals and requirements to develop a management plan
At this point, there is now a road map to guide you through the time outlined in the plan. From here we can also give you recommendations which might further increase the productivity of your timber, wildlife resources and land values. We are also available to assist in the implementation of any or all of the recommendations we made.
Another type of plan, Forest Stewardship Plan, is available and funding for some of this plan is provided by SC Forestry Commission to approved properties. Please contact us for more information on this service.
